The Benefits of Black Coffee

One of the things I started doing is drinking black coffee in the morning after I get back from the gym. Once in a while I'll put some brown sugar in there, but I try not to do this often. I'll make a lot of black coffee one day, then I'll put the whole pot in the refrigerator for the next few days. Each morning I'll have about a mug or two of black coffee.

Btw, I'm actually drinking black coffee right now as I write this article. I'm actually really liking this new habit. Each day after I get back from the gym, I'll get some black coffee and sit down to write an article for my blog. It's really nice actually. It's a great way to start the morning and I've noticed a few ways in which drinking black coffee in the morning affects me.

(Side note, I literally still to this day have not figured out 'affect' from 'effect'. So I did a goole search and found this very helpful picture.)

I have found that black coffee: 1) helps curb hunger for a last an hour or two and 2) it makes me more focus and energetic, which usually means I'm more ready to take on the day and achieve stuff.
According to "Healthline", the benefits of black coffee in the morning are:
  1. Helps you feel less tired and more energetic due to it's Caffeine and improves brain function
  2. Can help you burn fat and boost your metabolic rate (Effects may diminish over time)
  3. Improve physical performance, having a cup of black coffee an hour before you go to the gym can improve your workout
  4. May lower your risk of Type 2 Diabetes (It also helps you curb your sugar cravings)
There are a lot of other benefits that I won't cover here. And apparently there are many studies showing the benefits of black coffee. So it sounds like this could be a good habit to get into.

However, you must be aware they are referring to black coffee. If you go to Starbucks, unless you ask for 'no sugar black coffee', most of their drinks are LOADED with sugar, up to like 40g of sugar! That's like four days worth of sugar! So don't be deceived and start thinking you can drink any Starbucks drink and it'll make you healthy. On the contrary, only drinking black coffee is the safest bet.

I realize they said drink black coffee before your workout. I'm sure that would help my workouts, but I don't want to have to wake up earlier than I try to already. Secondly, for me personally, if I wake up for an hour before I go to the gym, it gives my mind time to come up with some reasons or rationalizations for why I shouldn't go to the gym today then I'm more likely to not go. When I wake up early in the morning, I get dressed and get out the front door as soon as possible, so as to not give me time to change my mind.

They say coffee and sugar are the world's most popular drugs. Caffeine and sugar are the only drugs accepted by our society. Sugar is the definitely a drug and it's bad for you. So avoid as much sugar as you possibly and reasonably can. Coffee, or the caffeine in coffee, is also slightly addictive. But it doesn't seem to have any major health issues associated with it, so I think it's okay. On the other hand, it can cause mild physical dependence.

I personally like the idea of never being dependent of anything or anyone outside of yourself. I wish for myself that I will never be addicted to anything good or bad. That said, as long as you could go without coffee without losing it, and as long as it doesn't affect your life in a negative way, I think it's okay.

Okay I'm beginning to ramble. So in conclusion, I like drinking black coffee in the morning. It has many proven benefits, just don't become dependent on it... or on anything for that matter. Be self-sufficient. And don't let it stain your teeth!

I hope you found this article enlightening and it that it cleared up the topic for you. If you like these articles I'm putting out daily, let me know! I would love to hear it!

Cheers,
Alex S.
